These two awesome peeps live in Manchester, and although I live in York and work away in Shrewsbury, I was keen to make the trip as I always relish the opportunity to go somewhere new, this gives me the freedom to think on my feet and tests my creativity, all good stuff for a wedding photographer.

When arranging these engagement/pre-wedding shoots, I often like the couple to choose the location as they offer the insider knowledge, where’s hot and where’s not and they’re always spot on with their choices. When we meet I like to do it over a coffee or a pint, preferably the latter 😉 you get to have a good chat, learn about their wedding day and get to know them a little before the dreaded black contraption comes out to take their pictures. Ali and Rick didn’t disappoint, we met up for a swift pint in the sun at the Home Arts Complex before moving off to Castlefield.

Castlefield was a fantastic juxtaposition of old industrial buildings and new, with canals and a ridiculous amount of random bridges that are overlooked by the iconic Beetham Tower. With an uncharacteristic spate of good weather, we were spoilt for choice but we very nearly planned the shoot over one of England’s group stage game and with the World Cup “coming home” it was swiftly rescheduled. (I’m a long-suffering England fan with 52 years of hurt).

After the shoot, I created a personalised online gallery via an online viewing platform called Pixieset. There Ali & Rick we able to download the pictures but most importantly they’re able to create their favourites, this lets me know what they like and don’t like and I can then apply that to their day – perfect!

I’m super excited to photograph their naturalistic wedding in Gargrave, but in the meantime, take a look at their beautiful faces in a place called Castlefield.

I hope you enjoyed these images from this Manchester Engagement Shoot as much as I enjoyed taking them! I’d love to hear from you if you are remotely interested in a Pre-wedding/Engagement shoot or even better your wedding day – please get in touch.
